The purpose of my project was to evaluate the effects of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) on the physiology and pathology of cardiomyocytes in culture. I worked on primary heart cultures, which I extracted from heart ventricular of both from neonatal and adult rats

For my bachelor thesis, I worked in the Medical Genetics laboratory of the University of Bologna (www.lagem.it
), directed by Professor Giovanni Romeo, under the supervision of Elena Bonora and Emanuele Panza. I graduated with a degree thesis in Molecular Genetics, with title “Analysis of gene NIS in patients affected by familial non medullar thyroid cancer”. My research focused on screening for candidates genes involved in the pathogenesis of familial non medullar thyroid cancer at locus 19p13.2, which has been demonstrated to be in linkage with the pathology. I concentrated on NIS, the sodium iodide symporter, which has a fundamental role in the thyroid iodine metabolism
